Our Approach
Our ecologists work closely with in-house wind analysts, construction engineers and development project managers to ensure that ecological constraints are built into project design from an early stage to reduce any impact on the environment through construction or operation. This is particularly important as policy requirements become more stringent worldwide; also, especially during the construction stage, a carefully proposed mitigation strategy will often persuade local residents that a developer’s intentions for the project are worthwhile.
An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) forms a significant part of the EIA which is obligatory for most renewable projects. For smallscale developments not requiring a formal EIA, a more targeted approach to EcIA is usually required. We can handle whichever assessment is most appropriate for your proposed project and the general process is as follows:
- Desktop survey
- Reconnaissance survey visits
- Produce scope of survey works required for baseline assessment (feed into stage two Development Assessment)
- Baseline ecological assessment (minimum one year)
- Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA)
- Consent
- Discharge planning conditions (elaboration of monitoring and land management plans)
- Pre-construction survey
- Ecological Clerk of Works
- Ongoing operational monitoring and land management
