Codling Wind Park
The Codling Wind Park proposal is for a 220-turbine wind farm located at Codling Bank approximately 13 km from the shore, off the east coast of Ireland. The project has received consent from the Minister for Communications and Natural Resources in September 2005. Our team acted as agents for two joint venture development companies and were responsible for managing all aspects of the project development consents up to the shoreline. The 220 turbine project covers approximately 1/3 of the total Licence area, leaving the possibility for further expansion.
We managed the contract for preparation of a wind map for the Codling Bank site at a grid scale of 1km using AWS Truewind’s Mesomap system. We also correlated this information with data from the Robin Rigg anemometer mast (with consent from client) to provide site wind regime predictions, prior to completing site design.
We also completed the wind farm layout design and optimisation including production of draft and final site layouts for the best energy capture, taking consideration of the site bathymetry, infrastructure, visual impact, navigation, sidescan sonar, archaeology, seismic surveys, benthic analysis, and other site constraints and aesthetic design principles to minimise environmental impacts.
