the product
The accurate prediction of energy yields is fundamental to the success of wind farm
projects. Yield prediction accuracy increases by collecting high quality data from
numerous points throughout a wind farm and at heights across the full turbine height.
This density of data collection is difficult and expensive to achieve with traditional
anemometry masts alone. In addition, traditional anemometry masts raise significant
associated issues including the need for building permits and health and safety concerns.
Based at ground level, ZephIR® provides complete wind resource measurement including
horizontal and vertical wind speed, wind direction, turbulence, height measured, temperature,
humidity and pressure at any height up to 150 metres without the need for a mast.
The portability and ease of deployment of ZephIR® makes high density data collection a reality,
both horizontally and vertically across the extent of your site.
ZephIR® is the leading remote sensing technology in the wind industry and is deployed
worldwide for:
- initial site assessment
- model verification
- micro siting
- power curve assessment
- permanent wind farm anemometry
- operational wind farm analysis
- site repowering
Product features include:
- Continuous Wave (CW) laser system measuring 150 wind data points at each user
defined height up to 150 metres, enhancing measurement quality and providing additional
information on turbulence.
- Low power operation with battery back-up requiring just 28v at 100W continuous,
supported by an integrated battery pod providing emergency power supply.
- Remote access anytime, anywhere using GSM / GPRS mobile phone coverage to dial into
the system remotely, supported by on-board flash memory (storing up to 12 months data)
and direct Ethernet access.
Product accreditations include:
- CE marked meeting all the essential requirements of all applicable EU directives
with the necessary conformity assessment procedures applied.
- Validated by Germanischer Lloyd with performance reported at 100% availability
at all heights for six months, with a correlation coefficient of 0.99 against a
calibrated cup anemometer.
- Bank's Engineers will accept ZephIR® data as part of the bankable pack using
the data in a quantitative sense for the formal assessment of the wind speed and energy
production of a potential wind farm site.
