VENTOS - complex flow analysis
As pressure grows for suitable land-based sites it becomes necessary for wind farm development in complex, often forested terrain. Such terrain poses issues such as structurally damaging turbulence and unexpectedly low energy yields.
We are industry leaders in wind analysis on complex sites. We use VENTOS* - one of the best validated and respected flow solvers in the industry. Our services are backed by years of experience with highly specialised engineers applying the code to the most difficult sites.
VENTOS is a full 3D, full-buoyancy, RANS solver written from the ground up for wind farm and related applications. It has the most advanced forest canopy model which currently exists. We have a close relationship with the originators of the code at CEsA, and VENTOS remains to this day an active research platform for further developments in the field.
Our CFD modelling is exclusively carried out by aeronautical engineers, trained in the use of VENTOS by the authors of the code, at Porto University. The software is parallelised and runs on a Linux/OpenMPI-based cluster located at our Strasbourg office. This gives our engineers unrivalled power and flexibility to solve the most difficult sites.
With more than 3 GW of studies worldwide quantifying flow issues on complex sites, our clients include major utilities, turbine manufacturers, investors and developers.
