life at natural power

Chad Homuth

Principal engineer

When did you join Natural Power?

I joined Natural Power at the beginning of 2020.

What does your day typically consist of?

My day is usually of mix between project management and performing technical reviews. When I’m focusing on project management, I’m making sure a project is moving forward and information is being transferred smoothly between our client and the Natural Power team. At other times, I am responsible for performing reviews of civil and structural design documentation on all types of renewable energy projects as a subject matter expert.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

For me, the most challenging part is balancing competing deadlines and interests. There are always several projects going on simultaneously and sometimes deliverable deadlines can overlap. The positive side of this is that things don’t usually get too boring or repetitive.

What is the most interesting type of work you have done and why?

I find serving as independent engineer on projects interesting because we get to interact with so many parties and the level of review is more detailed than some of the other work we do. There is always something new to learn when you're the IE, because every project has its idiosyncrasies. I also love the construction monitoring part of the independent engineer role because it is gratifying to get out on-site and see things get built.

Provide a hidden talent or quirky fact about yourself!?

I am on an ultimate frisbee team that competes competitively throughout the Midwest.
