Marie Montus
When did you join Natural Power?
I joined the Natural Power team in July 2019.
What does your day typically consist of?
My days vary depending on the time of year and the needs of the Environment department. I always start with checking my emails and task list to prioritise the actions of the day.
About a third of my time is dedicated to supervising and supporting project managers and environmental consultants. I am particularly involved in decision-making, quality review, and providing expertise, especially on projects involving marine mammals or offshore work.
Another third of my work is focused on business development, such as managing client relationships, writing proposals, coordinating the partner network, and identifying opportunities to grow the business.
Finally, the rest of my time is devoted to reporting and internal communication. I contribute to structuring methodologies within the Natural Power group, promoting cross-functional collaboration and the value of collective expertise.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
There are many aspects of my job that I enjoy. For me, the most important is the team. I can rely on experienced and skilled colleagues whose expertise and commitment are valuable assets for growing the company in France. We share strong human values, which strengthens cohesion and trust on a daily basis.
I also appreciate the diversity of projects and stakeholders, which allows me to thrive professionally. The role of a consultant is incredibly rewarding: it enables us to work on a wide range of topics while maintaining our independence of judgement and scientific integrity.
I also enjoy taking on the challenges that come with the constant evolution of our field. This drives me to continuously develop new skills to keep Natural Power competitive in ecology-related services.
What is the most interesting type of work you have done and why?
The projects I find most exciting are the ones that push us out of our comfort zone and lead us to develop new tools or expertise. In that sense, I particularly enjoyed working on the impact assessment for the Dunkirk project — the first in France to incorporate variable design features.
I also have a strong interest in highly operational projects, especially offshore construction monitoring. I regularly work alongside construction companies and survey teams on submarine cable connections or interconnectors — missions I actually find hard to delegate because I enjoy them so much!
What is your biggest achievement at work?
Without hesitation: the team. I’m very proud to have contributed to the development of our Environment team in France, by diversifying our activities while maintaining a collaborative and supportive work environment.
