As solar deployment accelerates across the U.S., competition for suitable land is becoming harder to ignore. Agrivoltaics offers a compelling alternative: combining renewable energy generation with farming, grazing or habitat restoration on the same site.
In this article, we examine how the market is evolving, where different agrivoltaic models work best, and the financial, technical and policy barriers that still stand in the way of wider adoption. Drawing on lessons from the U.S. and international markets, we explore what it will take for dual-use solar to move from a promising niche to a mainstream development strategy.
