We’ve supported Ørsted in a landmark agreement to divest its European onshore business to funds managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), in a transaction valued at approximately €1.44 billion.
The portfolio spans onshore wind, solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets across Ireland, the UK, Germany and Spain, with projects ranging from early-stage development through to construction and operational phases.
Natural Power acted as the vendor’s technical advisor for the divestment of the solar portfolio, undertaking comprehensive due diligence and delivering independent energy yield analyses. As part of this mandate, the team carried out detailed due diligence on a representative sample of solar assets across the portfolio. The selected assets reflected the breadth of development stages, from early planning through to operational projects.
Chico Rebelo, Senior Technical Advisor at Natural Power, said: “Our approach to this multi-country portfolio required a consistent and rigorous approach to both technical due diligence and energy yield validation to provide clarity and confidence to support the divestment process.
“Transactions of this scale demonstrate the continued maturity of the European solar and storage market, and we’re proud to have supported Ørsted throughout.”
The team reviewed planning status, land lease arrangements, grid connection agreements and technical requirements, alongside construction and operations contracts and the portfolio’s financial model. This structured and risk-focused approach provided clarity and transparency to prospective buyers, supporting an efficient transaction process.
We also completed independent pre- and post-construction energy yield assessments for each solar asset in the portfolio. The scope included detailed solar resource analysis using on-site measured data, ensuring robust validation of long-term performance assumptions. The work provided an objective and consistent technical foundation across the geographically diverse portfolio, helping underpin the valuation and de-risk the transaction for all parties involved.
We continue to advise developers, utilities, investors and lenders across renewable energy transactions throughout Europe, providing technical due diligence, resource assessment and asset advisory services to support informed investment decisions.
