We have supported E Energy Invest, the investment vehicle of the Strioga Family Foundation, in acquiring a minority share in a battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Italy, marking the client’s first investment in the country’s rapidly growing energy storage market.
Acting as technical due diligence advisor, we worked in collaboration with Italian renewable energy consultancy Studio Rinnovabili to provide a comprehensive assessment of the project, combining local market knowledge with specialist battery energy storage expertise to support Strioga Family Foundation’s investment decision.
Our team led the technical due diligence, reviewing the project’s design, technical assumptions and financial model, while Studio Rinnovabili provided detailed local expertise covering permitting, land agreements and grid connection. Together, the teams delivered an integrated assessment of the project’s technical and development readiness, enabling the client to evaluate project risks and opportunities with confidence.
Clare McDowell, Senior Energy Storage Advisor at Natural Power, said: “Italy has become one of Europe's most exciting battery storage markets, attracting increasing levels of international investment as the country expands its renewable energy infrastructure. As the market matures, investors are looking for advisors who can combine deep technical expertise with an understanding of local market conditions.
“Projects like this demonstrate the value of bringing together specialist battery storage knowledge and in-country expertise to give investors the confidence to make well-informed decisions. We're delighted to have supported Strioga Family Foundation on its first battery storage investment in Italy and look forward to continuing to support clients as the market evolves."
The project demonstrates the complementary capabilities of Natural Power and Studio Rinnovabili, which have been working together since Natural Power acquired a 50% stake in the Rome-based consultancy in 2025. By combining in-country knowledge of the Italian regulatory and development landscape with extensive international battery energy storage expertise, we are supporting investors and developers as Italy’s energy storage market continues to expand.
Olga Ivanova, Technical Due Diligence Lead at Studio Rinnovabili, added: "Every market has its own regulatory framework, development practices and stakeholder landscape, so understanding the local context is essential when assessing project risk. Technical due diligence isn't just about reviewing designs and documentation - it's about understanding how projects are progressing on the ground and identifying the factors that can influence successful delivery.
“Working closely with our colleagues at Natural Power enables us to combine detailed knowledge of the Italian market with international battery storage expertise, providing clients with a more rounded assessment that supports confident investment decisions."
As renewable energy becomes a mainstream part of the energy mix, the role of energy storage in building resilience and reliability into the grid becomes ever more important. We have experts in energy storage technology, consenting, contracting, construction, energy analysis and asset management. The team has completed technical due diligence on more than 90 GWh of BESS projects across development, construction and operational stages, and has supported investors and lenders on approximately 65 GWh of BESS M&A and financing transactions in the last three years.
