SECTOR Life extension

Each project has its own set of needs when it comes to life extension

Life extension 1

Natural Power supports clients who want to extend their asset’s life.

We understand the risks and opportunities at each stage of a project’s life because we work across the project lifecycle. This includes getting them ready to work beyond their original lifespan. We do this using our experience in analyzing, developing and operating renewable energy assets.

Extending the life of wind and solar farms

There are different ways to repower a wind farm. Owners can opt to remove some, or all, of the existing turbines and erect entirely new turbines, or they can choose to replace major components while retaining elements of the existing balance of plant, foundations, towers, and layout. For solar projects this may involve upgrading modules, inverters, or transformers while reusing the existing racking.

Refurbishment may see the renewal or replacement of equipment; blade repairs; repainting of towers; and improvements and upgrades to components such as electrical infrastructure.

Life extension is an operational strategy to keep turbines or solar projects running longer than the original design life. Achieved through a combination of proactive maintenance and refurbishment, life extension often makes sense in locations where the wind conditions at the site are somewhat lower than those for which the wind turbine was designed.

Decommissioning. If life extension at your site isn’t possible, we can also help to support you in the decommissioning plan and cost estimate for your wind or solar project.
