life at natural power

Kaitlin Beattie

Senior Technical Advisor – Energy Storage

When did you join Natural Power?

October 2024

Can you tell us more about your role?

I work as a senior technical advisor in the energy storage team. Within my role I work with various stakeholders, from developers, investors, contractors and internal teams to support renewable energy projects.

The scopes I typically work on range from early-stage projects where I support in fire safety management plans and procurement support including tendering, bid evaluation, and commercial negotiations with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors. I also advisethroughout the project lifetime in M&A and financing transactions, technical due diligence reporting, pre-construction and construction oversight and commissioning support.

The projects I advise in these services and other advisory services can be worldwide, though mainly based in the UK and EU.

Why did you want to join the renewable energy industry?

During my time at uni (BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering) I had some renewable energy classes that really interested me and became my favourite part of the course. I decided to undertake a master’s degree with a focus on renewable energy (MSc Wind Energy Systems) and since then my interest in renewables has only grown.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

The most challenging part of my role is balancing together the complex technical details and commercial considerations to provide clear practical actions that help projects progress safely and efficiently.

What is your favourite aspect of renewables?

My favourite aspect of renewables is being directly involved in the transition to net zero, and the long-term benefits for the environment. Renewables is a fast-paced environment with constant innovation so there’s always something new to learn.

What has been your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement was on a procurement project where the final CAPEX at purchase was 30% lower than the initial offer. Throughout the procurement process I worked closely with the client and the Tier 1 manufacturers to ensure the best technical and commercial offering was provided and advised where improvements on both could be introduced.

Tell us something interesting about yourself (do you have a hidden talent or a quirky fact?)

I have a background in gymnastics where I won 4 Scottish Championships in tumbling. Now I like to keep active with a range of activities like surfing, aerial silks and flying trapeze.
