We have been appointed as owner’s engineer for Bute Energy’s Twyn Hywel Energy Park in South Wales, supporting the project as it moves into the construction phase.
Located near Caerphilly, Twyn Hywel Energy Park is one of Bute Energy’s flagship onshore wind developments and forms part of its wider mission to help accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon energy future in Wales. The project will include up to 14 wind turbines with a capacity of up to 93.8MW of renewable electricity – enough to power around 81,000 homes each year.
As owner’s engineer, we will draw on our extensive experience to support the project throughout the construction phase, providing independent technical oversight to help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with performance expectations.
Ralph Spernagel, Construction Director at Natural Power, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Bute Energy on the delivery of Twyn Hywel as the project reaches this significant milestone and commences construction. Developments like this play a vital role in expanding renewable generation capacity and strengthening the UK’s transition towards a more resilient, sustainable energy system.
“In our role as owner’s engineer, the provision of our technical oversight and independent expertise is needed to help ensure successful project delivery, and we look forward to working closely with Bute Energy as construction progresses.”
Matt Haughton, Senior Project Manager at Bute Energy, said: “The start of construction at Twyn Hywel represents an important step forward not only for this project, but for the wider development of renewable energy infrastructure in Wales. Delivering projects at this scale requires experienced partners with strong technical expertise. As Bute Energy’s first project to enter construction, Natural Power’s track record of supporting complex renewable energy developments made the business a natural choice for this phase of the project.
“We’re pleased to have the support of the Natural Power team as we move into construction and work towards bringing Twyn Hywel into operation as part of our commitment to delivering clean energy infrastructure that invests in local communities, strengthens energy security and contributes to the transition to net zero.”
With construction now underway, Twyn Hywel Energy Park represents another major step in expanding the UK’s renewable energy capacity and demonstrates the momentum behind investment in projects that will play a central role in the future energy system. The project will support up to 300 jobs during construction, with an annual community benefit fund of £704,000 once the energy park is completed.
We support clients across the full renewable energy lifecycle, providing independent technical advisory, engineering and asset management services that help bring complex clean energy projects to fruition worldwide.
